Clean, natural energy.  Environmental stewardship is a major issue in the world today, impacting a wide range of people, from the individual to municipalities. SunCore’s solar and wind powered street light systems provide a smart ecological solution for municipal infrastructure by providing light on roadways and in cities and towns as stand-alone street lamps with no need for connection to the power grid. Harnessing the energy around us, SunCore’s proprietary photovoltaic (PV) panels and charge-management system (CMS), along with high efficiency wind turbines harvest energy provided by wind and sun that is clean, free and always accessible.

Rugged design for severe weather and rural locations  Even in our modern times some countries, including areas here in the U.S., have large rural areas that are still unlighted at night due to the lack of available power grid. Established power grids do not permeate these areas, yet the need for light and power is crucial to safety, growth and development. SunCore has designed a special ruggedized street light that can power itself from the sun and wind and still withstand harsh and extreme climates. One of the Company’s first deployments of these systems is in the north of Russia where wintertime temperatures frequently fall below -30 deg. F.

As in our small mobile products, our proprietary PV panel design utilizes more of the light spectrum, enabling the panels to harvest energy even in low-light conditions such as overcast skies or even in fog. Further, a specialized encapsulation process helps prevent the formation of ice and grants superior durability from scratching and cracking, allowing light harvesting even in severe winter weather. Additional energy is also gathered from the wind, supplementing the solar energy and further allowing energy to be harvested, even during night-time or the short daylight hours of deep winter.

Power off the grid.  Each street light consists of two PV panels, one charge-management system (CMS), one wind turbine and an energy efficient LED light, all mounted to a very stylized light pole. The PV panels, CMS and wind turbine transfer light and wind energy into a specially-designed battery system in a weather-proof underground vault. Light sensors activate the street lights and draw the stored power from the battery, even when the battery is actively recharging from wind or solar power sources. Thus, each street light is completely self-powering and self-sustaining.
